Pet Dental Care Middlesbrough
As humans we make sure that we brush our teeth twice a day as well as the importance of visiting the dentist to get regular dental check-ups, but you may not know that your pets should also be receiving regular checks on their dental health as well. Here at Jacqui Paterson’s we provide full pet dental health checks from our Middlesbrough surgery on a six month basis to ensure your pet’s teeth are nice and healthy.
You may already take action to help keep your pet’s teeth in good health by brushing their teeth or giving them food and treats that have been designed to help their dental health, however this doesn’t mean that dental problems won’t still develop which is why it is important to let us carry out routine dental checks. We would recommend that you bring your pet to us every 6 months to allow us to assess their teeth, gums and mouth to check for any signs of problems that could be developing. Bringing your pets for regular dental checks means that any issues can be addressed straight away to prevent any long lasting problems.
We provide scale and polish treatments if required to ensure that your companion’s dental health is in top condition. This is a generally quick procedure and a general anaesthetic will be used to reduce any anxiety or stress for your pet, we will then clean the teeth using specialist equipment whilst carrying out a full examination to check for any damage and to assess whether any further treatment will be required.
Once the effects of the anaesthetic have worn off your pet will be able to return home with you, although they may be slightly groggy to begin with they will soon be back to their normal self. Before you take your pet home we will have a discussion with you regarding any post operative care including recommended food and any pain relief that may be required in the short term after the procedure.
Tartar build up can occur if bacteria is not cleaned away regularly which leads to the bacteria clinging to the teeth and, if not treated, can lead to further problems down the line. Problems such as gum disease, which can cause bleeding gums, oral pain and bad breath are all a symptom of tartar build up. If the issue goes without treatment the bacteria can end up being released in to the blood stream via the gums which can lead to very serious problems such as kidney damage. All of these problems can, thankfully, be prevented if it is caught early on which is why getting regular check ups is extremely important.
The substantial benefits that come from regular dental checks are extremely high especially when compared to the potential problems that can occur if any poor dental hygiene issues go untreated.
